En avril 2002, l'armée israélienne investit la Cisjordanie et s'acharne sur Ramallah. Rajah Shehadeh a tenu son journal durant cette période pour raconter la vie quotidienne en état de siège. Écrivain et avocat, fondateur de Al-Haq (organisation non partisane de défense des droits de l'homme), il a rédigé dans une prose pudique et maîtrisée un document profondément émouvant, d'une grande portée politique et plus que jamais d'actualité.
