Then we have seen some productions which seemed tinged with overmuch sarcasm and lacking in kindly charity; but assuredly only those who have safely arrived at the third stage - among whom we humbly hope to be numbered - are competent to judge impartially. However, because of a well meant endeavour to pass over unpleasant features, some writers who have resided for longer periods in the country naturally ignore the more gloomy aspects.
