JULIAN ROBINSON  is a graduate of the Royal College of Art and a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts. He worked for fifteen years as a professional fashion designer, with his own designer label and as a consultant, working with Mary Quant, Sir Norman Hartnell, Yves Saint Laurent and Zandra Rhodes. In 1966 he became Director of Fashion Studies at Hornsey College of Art, Middlesex University. In 1976 he emigrated to Australia to help establish degree and postgraduate fashion courses at the Sydney College of the Arts, Sydney University. He is the author of numerous books including  The Brilliance of Art Deco  (1987) and  The Fine Art of Fashion  (1989).  The Fine Art of Fashion Illustration is a visual celebration of fashion image making and illustration from the Renaissance to the end of the Art Deco period, prior to the Second World War, when studio photography became predominant in the promotion of new fashionable styles. It will show fashion illustration as an art form of allure and beauty, as captured by talented image-makers and printed in publications spanning centuries.
