The articles in this volume are a selection of the papers presented at the Sixth Symposium Platonicum of the International Plato Society in Jerusalem.
They reflect the breadth of topics and the range of problems present in Plato's Laws: Problems of editing and literary form, rhetoric and style, Homeric quotations; the Socratic influence; soul and motion; pleasure, virtue and happiness, ethics and education, gender; public offices, economics, and philosophy of history; political philosophy and religion. Addressed are also the historical and literary contexts of the Laws, and its later repercussions. The volume includes a unified Bibliography, an Index locorum and a Subject Index.
Über den Autor / die Autorin
Samuel Scolnicov is Associate Professor of Philosophy and of Education at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His works include Plato's Metaphysics of Education (Routledge, 1988) and Plato's Parmenides, translated with an Introduction and Commentary (University of California Press, 2003), and he co-edited New Images of Plato: Dialogues on the Idea of the Good (Academia Verlag, 2003).
Luc Brisson is a researcher at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). He has published widely on Plato: translations, commentaries and bibliographies, and has a particular interest in the history of the platonic tradition as found in middle- and neo-platonism.
