La conquête du monde par l'image :
Du passé non spolié, la photo fait un éternel présent. Nous voici avec Sidsel Ramson dans le haut Pérou quechua, les ruines de l'empire Inca. À Jérusalem avec les Falashas soudain sortis de l'oubli, ou avec les Juifs pieux qui persistent à vivre, eux, comme hors de l'histoire...
Comme tous les photographes qui ne se contentent pas de la simple objectivité, les images, dans leur état définitif, sont marquées par la sensibilité personnelle et l'imagination de Sidsel Ramson. L'un des plus évidents pouvoirs de la photographie, c'est de permettre de conjuguer objectivité et subjectivité dans un jeu de réciprocité.
« Voir, c'est imaginer, imaginer, c'est voir » : Sidsel Ramson élabore ses photos comme l'artiste son tableau : jusqu'à ce qu'elles lui semblent achevées dans les détails comme dans la composition. Jusqu'à ce qu'elles soient des oeuvres, au sens plénier du terme.

The Conquest of the World through Image :
From a past unspoiled, the photo creates an eternal present. Here we are with Sidsel Ramson in Quechuan Peru, at the ruins of the Incan Empire. In Jerusalem with the Ethiopian Jews (or Falasha) that suddenly emerged from the world of the forgotten, or with the Hasidic Jews that continue to live as if the world stood still at some point in time...
As is true of all photographers who do not content themselves with mere objectivity, the images in their definitive state are marked by Sidsel Ramson's personal sensitivity and imagination. It is one of photography's greatest attributes to combine the subjective and objective in an inexhaustible game of reciprocity.
« To see is to imagine and to imagine is to see » : she creates her photos as a painter would his or her canvas ; until she deems them as accomplished in detail as they are in composition. Until they are works of art in the full sense of the term.
