Carmilla


Dans un château de la lointaine Styrie, au début du XIX^e siècle, vit une jeune fille solitaire et maladive.
Lorsque surgit d'un attelage accidenté près du vieux pont gothique la silhouette ravissante de Carmilla, une vie nouvelle commence pour l'héroïne.
Une étrange maladie se répand dans la région, tandis qu'une inquiétante torpeur s'empare de celle qui bientôt ne peut plus résister à la séduction de Carmilla...
Un amour ineffable grandit entre les deux créatures, la prédatrice et sa proie, associées à tout jamais « par la plus bizarre maladie qui eût affligé un être humain ».
Métaphore implacable de l'amour interdit, Carmilla envoûte jusqu'à la dernière ligne... jusqu'à la dernière goutte de sang !
Maître du récit de fantômes et de vampires, dans la tradition romantique du roman noir, l'Irlandais Sheridan Le Fanu (1814-1873) est l'un des pionniers du roman de mystère anglais. Carmilla (1872) annonce le Dracula (1897) de Bram Stoker.
