A Critique of the Idea of Progress - Ethics, Knowledge and Evolution

The idea of progress has many dimensions. Robert Nicholls addresses the question of whether or not progress is occurring in human society. If progress is occurring what exactly is it that is progressing? Nicholls presents his own view of progress within human society and then ponders whether progress in human society is part of an evolutionary progression at a much broader scale. He presents a view in which the progress in human society is part of the progression of life on Earth.

Über den Autor / die Autorin

Robert is a Canadian born Aussie, having emigrated with his wife from the cold shores of British Columbia to the warm tropical coast of North Queensland in 1975. With a degree in Education from Canada's University of Victoria, he took up the teaching of English, History and Legal Studies in a Whitsunday high school until, forty-two years later, with retirement and an expanding family in Victoria, he and his wife relocated to windy Ballarat. He has written three novels set in rural Queensland, a YA novel set in 15th Century England and a book of short stories.
