After completing a PhD at the European University Institute, Florence, he was Hoover Fellow at the Chaire Hoover d'éthnique économique et sociale, Louvain-la-Neuve, and held a Leverhulme Trust scholarship at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques, Paris.
