Chasseur de lion en Algérie, alpiniste en Suisse,
puis gouverneur d'une île en Polynésie : tel est le
destin de Tartarin, devenu pour tous une figure
emblématique de la vanité, une allégorie de la
prétention, un «génie» consternant de l'inadaptation,
maladroit, lâche, menteur, naïf et m'as-tu-vu,
