Fairbanks plays a street thief who falls in love with a princess who is about to marry. He impersonates another prince to gain access to the princess and becomes involved in a competition for her hand in marriage. Faced with three other less-than-desireable suitors, the princess falls for the thief disguised as the prince.

    Ein wahrlich märchenhafter Film mit unglaublich üppigem Dekor und einer Vielzahl von phantastischen Schauplätzen. Er ist der Version von 1940 unbedingt vorzuziehen, mag Douglas Fairbanks Sr manchmal auch etwas nerven. Eine für diese Zeit recht freizügige Nebenrolle hat auch die faszinierende Anne May Wong (Picadilli, Shanghai Express) als mong*olische Sklavin. Einziger Wermutstropfen bei dieser Arte-Edition: Die Neueinspielung des Soundtracks reicht keinesfalls an den alten O.S.T. ran, der mit wuscheligem orientalisierten Orchester aufwartet und erste beinahe psychedelische Versuche im Tonfilm wagt. REX Film hat ihn in seiner Douglas Fairbanks-DVD-Kollektion belassen, zudem variert die Film-Länge da um 9min plus.
