In the 1920’s Adriatic Sea, one pilot rules the skies: Porco Rosso, who was magically transformed into a pig. Porco is a talented pilot for hire protecting airships from marauding pilots, but when a hot-headed American pilot arrives looking to make a name for himself by shooting down The Crimson Pig, Porco enlists the help of a feisty young airplane engineer to get his beat-up plane into shape for the fight.

    Wie hier, von einem japanischen Team, Italien porträtiert wird, ist schon mal einfach nur köstlich! Andererseits ist es ein ganz ureigenes japanisches Thema, das hier nach Europa verlegt wird. Nämlich jenes der Schande, als Einziger seiner Truppe überlebt zu haben! Das ist der eigentliche Grund, warum Marco sich in Porco Rosso verwandelt hat und aus der Armee ausgetreten ist! Und indem er sich (ausgerechnet gegen einen Amerikaner!) in einem erneuten Kampf bewährt, kann er seine Ehre wieder herstellen. Diesen kulturellen Hintergrund, können wir Europäer jedoch kaum teilen und so lässt uns die Geschichte - und gerade auch ihr Ende - etwas ratlos zurück. Von dem abgesehen, tragen alle Figuren und Szenerien die Vorzüge, die das Studio Ghibli weltberühmt gemacht haben und Miyazaki lebt hier einmal mehr - als Sohn eines Flugzeugunternehmers - seine Vorliebe für 'Fliegende Kisten' ausgiebig aus...

    Miyazaki si conferma un genio del genere. Trama sottile che riesce a combinare la questione storica con le varie rivalità personal-sentimentali dei vari personaggi.
    Porco Rosso è sicuramente un personaggio difficile da dimenticare...

    Diese Geschichte hat mich leider nicht so mitgerissen wie andere Werke von Hayao. Es lohnt sich jedoch allemal einen Blick rein zu werfen.

    Eine weitere Perle aus dem Hause Ghibli resp. von Hayao Miyazaki. Eine schöne Geschichte und, wie üblich, einfach wunderbar gezeichnet.
