Durante i mesi dell`occupazione nazista a Roma la polizia tedesca è sulle tracce di un ingegnere comunista. Il giovane, sfuggito in tempo alla perquisizione nel suo appartamento, trova rifugio nella casa di Don Pietro, parroco di periferia, impegnato nella lotta contro l`oppressore. Ma la delazione di un`attrice che ha avuto una relazione con l`ingegnere, porta all`arresto dell`uomo e del parroco. Sottoposti a crudeli sevizie i due resistono e, mentre il giovane muore sotto tortura, il prete viene condannato alla fucilazione.
