Mark Snyder, Ph.D., is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Minnesota, where he holds the McKnight Presidential Chair in Psychology and is the founding Director of the Center for the Study of the Individual and Society. He received his B.A. from McGill University in 1968 and his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1972. His research interests include theoretical and empirical issues associated with the motivational foundations of individual and collective behavior, and the applications of basic theory and research in personality and social psychology to addressing practical problems confronting society. He has served as President of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, on the Board of Directors of the American Psychological Society, and the Council of the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues. He is a recipient of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology's Donald T. Campbell Award for Distinguished Contributions in Social Psychology.
