Le jeu de l'amour et du hasard : comédie, 1730

Pour mieux observer sa future épouse, un jeune
homme imagine de se présenter à elle sous la livrée
de son valet qui lui-même s'habillera en maître ;
or la jeune fille, de son côté, a eu la même idée,
et se fait passer pour sa femme de chambre,
qui elle-même jouera son rôle. Le hasard a ouvert
le jeu à l'amour, et le jeu de l'amour est d'aller
aussi bien où on ne l'attendait pas.
Depuis sa création en 1730, la pièce s'est imposée
comme le chef-d'oeuvre de Marivaux.
Un charmant badinage ? Sans doute.
Mais qui ne va pas sans questions : l'amour
est-il naturel ? Ignore-t-il les barrières sociales ?
Chacun vaut-il par ce qu'il est ou par ce qu'il paraît ?
Le Jeu de l'amour et du hasard nous conduit
au-delà du marivaudage : «C'est une bagatelle
qui vaut bien la peine qu'on y pense.»
