Prof. Ernst Gemsenjäger, geboren 1931, studierte Medizin in Lausanne, Paris, Wien und Bern, wo er 1958 promovierte. Während seiner Tätigkeit als Leitender Arzt am St. Claraspital, Basel, und als Chefarzt der chirurgischen Klinik Spital Neumünster, Zollikerberg/ZH, spezialisierte er sich in Bauch- und endokriner Chirurgie. Er habilitierte sich 1976. Zahlreiche Publikationen berichten über kolorektale und endokrine Chirurgie.
