Since 1999 the monetary union between 12 EU-states is in operation, since 2002 the euro exists as money.This essay examines the sector of payment and settlement systems within the Common Market, their situation and development towards the common goal of free movement and discover the obstacles. The situation and development assessment is divided into the individual payments sector and the bulk payments sector with.Finally the striking question is: Why does it take so long to integrate the payment sector?

Georg Schwedt, geb. 1943, studierte Chemie in Göttingen und promovierte an der Universität Hannover. Im Anschluss übernahm er eine Abteilungsleitung am Chemischen Untersuchungsamt Hagen, habilitierte sich 1978 in Analytischer Chemie an der Universität Siegen, wechselte nach Göttingen und wurde danach Direktor des Insitutes für Lebensmittelchemie und Analytische Chemie der Universität Stuttgart. Seit 1987 ist er Professor für Anorganische und Analytische Chemie an der TU Clausthal.§Georg Schwedt entwickelte das Mitmachlabor SuperLab und ist mit seinen zahlreichen Experimentalvorträgen zur Chemie von Supermarktprodukten, historischer Chemie und weiteren Themen bundesweit bekannt. Zweimal wurde er vom Stifterverband der Deutschen Wissenschaft im Förderprogramm Wissenschaft im Dialog ausgezeichnet. Er ist Autor zahlreicher Sach- und Lehrbücher.
