Among his books are Joseph Conrad: The Three Lives, American Fictions: 1940–1980, Modern and Modernism: The Sovereignty of the Artist 1885-1925, and Franz Kafka: Representative Man. Laurence Davies is Research Associate Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Dartmouth College and co-author of Cunninghame Graham: A Critical Biography. Owen Knowles is Fellow at the University of Hull, he is the author of A Conrad Chronology (1989), An Annotated Critical Bibliography of Joseph Conrad (1992) and co-author of The Oxford Reader's Companion to Joseph Conrad (2000). His edited works include the Everyman edition of Conrad's Almayer's Folly (1995), A Portrait in Letters: Correspondence to and about Joseph Conrad (with J.
