Ulteriori informazioni

Religion is indisputably one of the central factors in the current escalation of violence on the global scene, and many argue that it is the impetus behind most problems in the world today. In When Religion becomes Evil, religion and Middle East politics expert Charles Kimball asserts the necessity of distinguishing between ''corrupt'' and ''authentic'' forms of religious expression, focusing on five basic corruptions that manifest themselves in each of the major religious traditions. From commanding blind obedience to declaring Holy War, no single faith is exempt from these corruptions, but each has the ability and means within its own wisdom traditions to identify and correct such tendencies. Charles Kimball is professor of religion and chair of the Department of Religion at Wake Forest University. An ordained Baptist minister who received his Th.D. from Harvard University in comparative religion with specialization in Islamic studies, Dr. Kimball is the author of three books about religion in the Middle East. He lives in Winston-Salem, NC. ''Charles Kimball provides a powerful and even-handed moral analysis of the abuses that are found in all major religious traditions. It is an important reminder that no religion has a monopoly on good - or evil.'' - Carl W. Ernst, Zachary Smith Professor of Religious Studies, UNC-Chapel Hill
