HRH Prince Bernhard inducted him as a Knight in the Royal Order of the Golden Ark, the Netherlands’ highest conservation honor.Christine Eckstrom is a writer and editor. She is the author of Forgotten Edens and a contributor to many books published by the National Geographic Society. Davis holds degrees in anthropology and biology and received his Ph.D. in ethnobotany, all from Harvard University. Explorer-in-Residence at the National Geographic Society from 1999 to 2013, he is currently professor of anthropology at the University of British Columbia.
