This accessible feminist guide to art history puts female artists in the picture For the kind of students who always have hard-hitting questions on field trips, More Than a Muse follows students Jo and Ben who, on a visit to a museum, notice that there are lots of pictures of women made by men but hardly any art made by women. As they search through the museum for female artists, statues of Apollo and Artemis come to life to help them on their quest. From Artemisia Gentileschi to Yayoi Kusama, this book covers female artists from all time periods and art movements, with gorgeous, illustrated biography pages and a fun narrative through line perfect for turning anyone into an art history aficionado. Authors Marion Augustin and Sara Colaone, working in partnership with in partnership with AWARE: Archives of Women Artists, Research & Exhibitions, provide compelling snippets of scenes from each artist’s life, explain the movement that each artist was a part of, and provide beautiful illustrated biography pages for quick reference.
