Institutional living for people with intellectual disabilities - To what extent is this still appropriate in terms of guiding principles such as normalisation, empowerment and inclusion?

With reference to the current guiding principles of disability care - normalisation, empowerment and inclusion - institutional living conditions are analysed in terms of their appropriateness. Housing needs and a legal framework based on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities are considered, as is non-institutional living in the form of existing and future concepts.
