Dr Andreas Rümelin, PhD, has an extensive professional background in the field of anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine. After completing his studies and specialist training at the the Hannover Medical School and the University Medical Centre Mainz he has been working professionally for over 30 years. Since 2010, he has held the position of Chief Physician at various clinics for anaesthesiology. He is qualified as a specialist in post-operative intensive care medicine and is an expert in artificial nutrition. He is also co-editor of german and international guidelines in the field of artificial nutrition for intensive care patients.
He is the author of various textbooks on anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine and, together with Prof. Mayer, has published the paperback ‘Nutrition of the intensive care patients’.
Prof. Dr. Konstantin Mayer is an esteemed physician with over 30 years of experience in internal medicine, pulmonology, infectiology, critical care, transplantation, and sleep medicine. He is the Director of the Department of Pneumology, Infectiology, and Sleep Medicine at St. Vincentius Clinics in Karlsruhe and an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at Justus-Liebig-University Gießen.
Prof. Mayer’s research has significantly advanced our understanding of lung physiology, immune responses, and the pathophysiology of infectious diseases, particularly in respiratory failure and sepsis. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles in leading journals, including the European Respiratory Journal, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Intensive Care Medicine. He has been a member of several prestigious research groups funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and has contributed to national and international medical guidelines, including the German Sepsis Guidelines and the European Guidelines on Nutrition for Intensive Care Patients.
Thomas Felbinger is an Associate Professor in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine with over thirty years of clinical experience in the field. He spent several years as a research and clinical fellow at Harvard Medical School after being a recipient of a research grant by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Currently he is Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine of Harlaching and Neuperlach Medical Centers of the Munich Municipal Hospitals Group Ltd. Dr. Felbinger has published many papers in the field of nutrition of the critically ill as well as of general aspects of the immune system during stress. In this field he is an internationally renowned speaker and received several awards for his research (European Society of Intensive Care Medicine, Society of Critical Care Medicine, European Society for Microcirculation). Currently he contributed to the German Sepsis Guidelines and the Nutrition in Critically Ill Guideline of the German Society of Nutritional Medicine.
