The phenomenon of comic book superhero teams has fascinated fans for decades. With the arrival of the modern Avengers in cinemas, Marvel created a hype that continues to thrill audiences around the world to this day. The Marvel Cinematic Universe - MCU for short - tells new stories about already familiar Marvel heroes who form teams to save the world from destruction. This paper explores the background to this tactic and the question 'Why do we need hero TEAMS in particular today?' using the film Marvel's The Avengers as an example. The whole thing is based on the assumption that films, like comics, are products of a society and therefore reflect it, and that film analysis can be used as a tool to examine theories on societal, social and political issues. This paper will address questions about the growing complexity and current conflicts within society and substantiate the findings with examples from the film.
