PAPER CUTS tells story of Kessler''s thirty-year journey from the lower to upper echelons of the British music press. From inauspicious beginnings, Kessler managed to hold senior staff positions on the two most prestigious British music magazines, NME and Q, for over 25 years. He was in the cockpit when NME was selling over 100k copies every week during Britpop, but he also had his hand on the wheel at Q during print journalism''s long, increasingly steep plunge towards the turf. It starts with expulsion from his school and ends with expulsion from his career, two theoretically traumatic events that are nonetheless welcomed as merciful releases. And at its core is the promise that music will always illuminate an escape from even the tightest of corners.
