"La sante globale helps advanced French learners explore global health issues throughout the French speaking world. Using principles of communicative language teaching and languages for specific purposes, Erickson and McCoy lead instructors and students through a rich array of authentic materials from a wide variety of communities to help develop all advanced ACTFL skills. As learners gain knowledge about health topics in different communities, they develop their intercultural awareness. The textbook is based on authentic texts that are drawn from a wide-range of Francophone cultures-from indigenous communities in Northern Canada, to the banlieues of metropolitan France, to rural spaces in West Africa-and the materials provide a rich and diverse cultural context enlivening class discussions and expanding learners' understanding of the world. The documents include videos, infographics, reports, and mainstream articles, and are supported through vocabulary development and activities that build throughout each chapter. Themes covered include, what is global health, personal health, working with NGOs, access to healthcare throughout the world, mental health, climate change and health, disease, and nutrition, each presented in engaging and dynamic ways that give students opportunities to grow in all modes of learning and do not require content knowledge by instructors.
