Lawrence R. Samuel is a Miami- and NYC-based independent scholar and the author of many books including Literacy in America: A Cultural History of the Past Century (Rowman & Littlefield, 2024) and The American Teacher: A History (Rowman & Littlefield, 2024). He holds a Ph.D. in American Studies and an MA in English from the University of Minnesota and was a Smithsonian Institution Fellow.
