Von der ersten Chaosdarstellung in einem provinzialrömischen Mosaik reicht das Untersuchungsgebiet bis ins 18. Jahrhundert mit Exkursen in die Kunst des 19.-21. Jahrhunderts. Die Chaosbilder sind durch die Verwicklungen heidnischer und christlicher Vorstellungen geprägt.
