Ulteriori informazioni

This book is the first comprehensive compilation of elucidation of the genome of cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum Maton) and its genetic improvement. It includes reviews on the genetic resources, genetics and breeding and in vitro culture in cardamom and molecular characterization of phylogenetic relationship of cardamom of Columbia and Costa Rica.  This book presents deliberations on the whole genome sequencing and SSR markers of small cardamom. It also enumerates on the genetics and genomics of biotic stress and host-pathogen interaction, genomics of flavors, and transcriptomics resources and their implications and finally functional regulation of mRNAs in cardamom. Altogether, the book contains about 150 pages over 10 chapters authored by globally reputed experts on the relevant field in this crop. The book is useful to the students, teachers, and scientists in the academia and relevant private companies interested in classical genetics and breeding, molecular genetics, structural genomics, functional genomics, plant pathology and plant physiology of cardamom.

Info autore

Dr. K. K. Sabu is educated in the field of Plant Sciences and has working experience in plant genetics and genomics since 1995. His research interests include response of plants against environmental changes, natural variations in plant genetic resources and incorporation of genomics tools for big data analysis. He has carried out molecular breeding in rice and instrumental in developing new rice varieties in Malaysia. Besides, miRNA and transcriptome analysis were conducted in several plant species to understand genes regulating plant metabolism, yield and stress response.
Prof. Chittaranjan Kole is an internationally reputed scientist with an illustrious professional career spanning over forty years and original contributions in the fields of plant genomics, biotechnology, and molecular breeding leading to the publication of more than 160 quality research articles. He has edited over 197 books for the leading publishers of the world including Springer Nature, Wiley-Blackwell and Taylor and Francis Group. His scientific contributions and editing acumen have been appreciated by seven Nobel Laureates including Profs. Norman Borlaug, Arthur Kornberg, Werner Arber, Phillip Sharp, Günter Blobel, Lee Hartwell and Roger Kornberg. He has been honored with a number of Fellowships, Honorary Fellowships, and national and international awards including the Outstanding Crop Scientist award conferred by the International Crop Science Society. He was awarded with the Raja Ramanna Fellow by the Department of Energy, Government of India. He has served at all prestigious positions in academia including as Vice-Chancellor of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Project Coordinator of Indo-Russian Center of Biotechnology in India, and Director of Research of Institute of Nutraceutical Research of Clemson University, in USA. He also worked in the Pennsylvania State University and Clemson University as a Visiting Professor. He has been heading the International Climate-Resilient Crop Genomics Consortium, International Phytomedomics and Nutriomics Consortium and Genome India International as their Founder President. He is also the Founder Chairman of Prof. Chittaranjan Kole Foundation for Science and Society.
