Contemporary Stage Roles for Women - A Descriptive Catalogue

?This catalog consists of two parts: plays and female roles in them; and the roles classified. Women dominate the action in the 200 plays selected which are described as dramatically sound (from a feminist perspective) and with scripts generally available. Each entry in the first part offers a brief description of the play, women's role(s) therein, and the agent or publisher who controls the rights to the work. This is followed by the roles classified--plays and roles are listed under such headings as age groups; unusual physical characteristics; character types; and minorities. The Indexes trace character and playwrights' names and a Bibliography lists anthologies of plays for, about, and by women, works about women in the theater, and women in literature. This catalog could assist directors, actresses, producers, and feminists who want to monitor how women are portrayed in the theater.
