Johannes von Damaskos: Die Schriften - Band 10: Die Schriften des Johannes von Damaskos X - Iohannis Damasceni Vitae

Band X enthält die kritischen (Erst-)Ausgaben von elf biographischen Schriften in griechischer Sprache über Johannes von Damaskus. Dabei handelt es sich um BHG (= Bibliotheca Hagiographica Graeca) 394, 395, 884, 884a, 885, 885b, 885c, 885h, 885k und 885m sowie um die im sogenannten Menologium Basilii II unter dem 29. November überlieferte Johannesvita. Die Bereitstellung dieser Edition wird erstmals eine vergleichende interpretatorische Auswertung ermöglichen und die Basis für eine philologisch fundierte Genealogie der Texte bereiten. Drei Viten (BHG 885h, 885k und 885m) werden hier zum ersten Mal ediert; alle anderen werden auf der Grundlage einer breiteren Handschriftenbasis und einer gründlichen Neubewertung der bekannten Textzeugen als kritische Edition vorgelegt.

The vitae of John of Damascus are a crucial document in the reception of the Greek church father. They present novel-like anecdotes and portrayals of marvelous wonders, with some of the texts exhibiting high literary quality. This volume is the first to edit three of the vitae, presenting critical editions of the others based on a thorough review of all known and recently discover text witnesses.
