Have you ever had just one day that changed the course of your life forever?

Kiera, Maeve, and Brigid, three Scottish sisters, make a living by helping their mother sell fish in Edinburgh proper. But, one evening, a Captain in the King's Guard assaults their mother, and the girls' once happy family is destroyed. They quickly find that their family and their meager belongings are being used as pawns in a game to consolidate property and power against competing clans.

Precious McKenzie is an American author who writes books for children as well as poetry and short stories for adults. Ruffian is her debut historical fiction book for middle grades. Precious has a PhD in British Literature and loves those big, fat Victorian novels. She has published over thirty books for children.
