The Gate to Caesar is a textbook that introduces the intermediate Latin student to the works of one of the greatest historical figures in history. Caesar was a ruler, leader, general, diplomat, historian and writer. Caesar knew how to write his own language well; but he wrote for men, he wrote with compression and in haste, and there are passages in his works that are tough reading for a good Latin scholar. This book contains excerpts from his history of the Gallic Wars. Divided into two parts, the book first presents simplified versions of the text before presenting them as actually written by Caesar. Also included are extensive commentaries, vocabularies, exercises and etymological notes
