Cotton plays a major role in the Malian economy. For more than half a century, the cotton industry has been one of the main sources of income for the agricultural sector as well as for the textile and agri-food industries. In spite of this dominance, it must be noted that cotton growing is not free of pitfalls, including the difficulty of setting up an efficient and effective financing system. In this context, CMDT, which is in charge of managing the sector, uses a special credit called "campaign credit". Thus, several hundred billion of our francs are mobilized per campaign.
