Sepsis: Strategies for Management

Sepsis is a condition that occurs when the body's response to infection starts causing injury to its own organs and tissues. It may be life-threatening. The suppression of the immune system is the initial stage of sepsis. Common symptoms of sepsis are increased breathing rate, increased heart rate, fever and confusion. There can also be signs related to a specific infection such as painful urination with a kidney infection, cough with pneumonia, etc. If sepsis becomes severe, it can cause poor organ function or blood flow. The presence of low urine output, high blood lactate or low blood pressure is an indication of poor blood flow. This book brings forth some of the unexplored aspects of sepsis.
