Die Kunst von LuYang entsteht aus einem einzigartigen Crossover von Neurowissenschaft und buddhistischer Philosophie, Medizintechnologie und Bodyenhancement, Manga-Ästhetik und Sci-Fi-Fantasie. LuYang schuf 2020 den Avatar DOKU, der seine Gesichtszüge trägt und zugleich eine Figur darstellt, die sich von fixen Identitätszuschreibungen löst. Mit seinen technisch ausgefeilten wie ästhetisch überwältigenden 3D-Animationsfilmen, Videoinstallationen und Computerspielen erobert der Medienkünstler aktuell die internationale Kunstszene. LuYang hinterfragt gewohnte Denkkategorien, insbesondere im Hinblick auf geschlechtliche Identität. Digital Descending ist die erste Monografie des Künstlers, die in Deutschland erscheint.
