He has previously co-authored books in electronic engineering, linguistics and speech science, and has a particular research interest in man-machine interaction and the cognitive processes involved. In retirement, he has used his technical skills to help install a large short wave radio station with worldwide coverage that broadcasts the gospel in 30 languages from far northern Australia. He has also served as board chairman of a major Christian aged care organisation, as well as serving as a layman in the ministry program of his local church in greater Sydney. He has been happily married for over half a century, and has three adult children and six grandchildren. Klappentext By the time of the Civil War, the railroads had advanced to allow the movement of large numbers of troops even though railways had not yet matured into a truly integrated transportation system. Gaps between lines, incompatible track gauges, and other vexing impediments remained in both the North and South. As John E. Clark explains in this compelling study, the skill with which Union and Confederate war leaders met those problems and utilized the rail system to its fullest potential was an essential ingredient for ultimate victory.
