"Flower farmer Beth Syphers is rooted in the garden and her sister Sarah Kuenzi is a baker and chef. In their blog Furrow & Flour they, along with several of their siblings, post about their common passion for blooms, baking, and all things cozy and creative. Now, in the pages of their beautifully illustrated book, Furrow & Flour, the women have collected stories about the small joys they discover in a life that feels good on the inside, not just one that looks good on the outside. Furrow & Flour invites you on a journey through the garden, home, and family life. As young girls, the sisters grew up a family of twelve siblings. Their childhood was filled with imagination, whimsy, play and chores. As adults, Sarah and Beth are now mothers, wives, and creative entrepreneurs. They embrace their childhood influences from the garden, a country life, good food shared with loved ones, kitchen table gatherings, a "welcome all" lifestyle, homemaking, entertaining, haven-making and motherhood. In this book they have gathered a collection of helpful tips for the home and garden, ideas for entertaining, favorite recipes and seasonal menus, and encouragement for anyone seeking a life filled with simple, honest pleasures"--

There are so many lives we wish to live, so many adventures just out of reach, so many dialogues left unspoken. Sometimes it's easy to be bogged down with all the perceived missteps that have lead us down dusty dirt roads rather than traipsing through France or scaling a corporate ladder. Ah, but if we are honest with ourselves, we're not that girl. We are content talking to the hens while throwing scratch, find an unreasonable amount of joy in creating a smorgasbord of nibbles and actually enjoy (okay, most days) swiping at dust and straightening pictures. A perfect evening ends not bedecked and bedazzled, but curled on a cushion either outside with the crickets, or in the corner of the couch with a glass of wine and a fabulous book. What has charted our course to arrive where we are starts in the tangle of childhood memories. It's the triangle of sunlight that finds its way to the threadbare Persian rug as dad kisses mom goodbye in the doorway before work, and we kids are suddenly paddling madly in our boat made of light down the Amazon river in the jungle of our overactive imagination! It's the pungent smell of thirsty earth after a soaking rain, or the delicate fairy cap of a pristine Lily-of-the-valley glowing under the dense cover of lush vegetation. It's a slice of sun warmed tomato, all saucy and sloppy on a bed of sprouts and mass amounts of cream cheese, transported to the waiting mouth on a thick slice of whole wheat or chewy sourdough bread. It's a gaggle of girls, lanky limbed and tanned, keeping tabs on the young ones that are making mud pies and scrabbling in the shallows. It's the breeze through open windows carrying our voices as we try out new melodies to wrap up the day and transport it from reality to memory.
