Adventure and self-discovery come together in this remarkable memoir about a solo, female motorcycle travel journey along the edge of India, immersing readers in a rich and ancient cultural experience that few travelers have had.
In 1997, C.L. Stambush had never ridden a motorcycle in her life when, at the age of 37, she decided to buy and ride a Royal Enfield Bullet on a solo journey along the edge of India in an attempt to discover her true grit. This travelogue - of her five-month, nearly 7,000-mile motorcycle travels -beautifully and skillfully merges India's unpredictable and vibrant world with the author's inner desire to be bold.
Untethered: A Woman's Search for Self on the Edge of India takes readers on a motorcycle adventure filled with cultural insights and unforgettable encounters. As she navigates India's chaotic roads, Stambush faces numerous challenges-crashing her motorcycle (named Kali after the Hindu Goddess of destruction and rebirth), losing her camera, and grappling with moments of self-doubt and fear. Each experience pushes her out of her comfort zone and into profound personal growth.
Untethered is an armchair adventure readers' delight, offering a unique perspective on India's rich cultural tapestry and the resilience of the human spirit. Stambush's storytelling is as gripping as it is inspiring, making this memoir a must-read for anyone seeking to read an authentic and adventurous experience.
