Auschwitz. Bild und Hinterbild - Fotografien

2020 wurde der 75. Jahrestag der Befreiung von Auschwitz gefeiert. Gleichzeitig verschwinden unaufhaltsam die letzten Überlebenden, während in Auschwitz Phänomene des Massentourismus wahrzunehmen sind. Angesichts dieses Umbruchs ist es wichtig, den Begriff der Erinnerung zu diskutieren und auch zu fragen: Was sehen die vielen Besucherinnen und Besucher?
2017 und 2018 hat Frédéric Mougenot die beiden Vernichtungslager sowie die Orte des sogenannten Interessengebietes fotografiert, welches nach 1945 größtenteils vergessen wurde. So zeigt sich in den Fotografien auch eine unsichtbare Grenze, welche Erinnerungskultur von schrittweisem Verschwinden trennt.

Riassunto

The 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz was commemorated in 2020. While the final survivors are now rapidly disappearing, mass tourism phenomena can be perceived in Auschwitz at the same time. In light of these changes, it is important to discuss the concept of remembrance and also to ask: What do the crowds of visitors see? In 2017 and 2018, Frederic Mougenot photographed the two extermination camps and locations in the so-called "Interessengebiet" (area of interest), which was largely forgotten after 1945. What is thus shown in the photographs is an invisible boundary that separates the culture of remembrance from gradual disappearance.
