Prefazione

Both to keep production costs down and to build excitement about the book among potential buyers, the author will promote this project in various venues and actively seek suggestions and contributions from other writers through the author’s electronic-newsletter subscription list, mailing list, and other interested communities already in place. The author will also call for contributions on other websites and e-zine lists, as well as contact high-profile writers for possible contributions.  (Many well-known authors, including Deepak Chopra, Caroline Myss, Rachel Remen, Alan Cohen, the late Marion Woodman and Angeles Arrien, and Larry Dossey contributed to the author’s Prayers for Healing; these people and more will be invited to contribute to this volume as well.)  This will serve two purposes: In addition to building prior knowledge of and excitement about the book, it also provides the author with more possible entries to include, saving permission costs.  Additionally, it is reasonable to assume that those contributing to the book would be inclined to purchase multiple copies for distribution among their personal and/or professional circles.

In addition, the author will launch a blog on hope in which to both solicit contributions to and interest in the book while still in the production stage.  Social-media outlets will also be utilized in order to build excitement about and “ownership” in this collection.

The author is committed to the success of this book and will proactively market it in order that it reach as wide an audience as possible. Arenas for its promotion  include the workshops and retreats that the author facilitates (at such venues as Chautauqua Institution and the Institute for Health and Healing at California Pacific Medical Center),  interfaith communities (the author is a graduate of One Spirit Interfaith Seminary, based in Manhattan) and Unity and other churches (the author is the Senior Minister of Unity Spiritual Center of San Francisco).

The breadth of content that will be included in Have Hope, as well as its timeliness and relationship to current events, gives it a large number of promotional possibilities in the media.  And, since it will be in the same popular format as the author’s first book, Prayers for Healing-- which one reviewer called “beautiful and powerfully moving” and another reviewer called “perhaps the most powerful spiritual book I have ever read,” with more than 40,000 copies sold to date—it lends itself to easy extrapolation for media mentions.
