70 Jahre Kunst am Bau in Deutschland

1950 wurde im Deutschen Bundestag, aber auch in der Volkskammer der DDR die obligatorische Beteiligung bildender Künstlerinnen und Künstler bei staatlichen Baumaßnahmen im In- und Ausland beschlossen. In 70 Jahren entstanden zahlreiche Kunstwerke, die Politik, Gesellschaft und Architektur sowie die Aufgaben von Institutionen mannigfaltig widerspiegeln. Die Publikation beleuchtet die Bedeutung und Potenziale der Kunst am Bau für Staatsorgane und -behörden, Forschungsinstitute, militärische Einrichtungen und deutsche Vertretungen in aller Welt. In 1950, the obligatory participation of visual artists in state building measures at home and abroad was decreed in the German Bundestag as well as in the Volkskammer (parliament) of the German Democratic Republic. Over a period of seventy years, numerous artworks that reflect the politics, society, and architecture as well as the tasks of institutions in diverse ways have been created. The publication sheds light on the significance and potentials of building-related art for state authorities and institutions, research institutes, military facilities, and German representation around the world. It discusses its specific aspects, for instance, the creation of the works, as well as their maintenance and preservation, and elucidates how close building-related art can be to day-to-day life—as inspiration, statement, and national visiting card that gives the architecture an additional added value.
