Africa faces numerous challenges relating to good governance due to its vast and diverse landscape, as well as its history. This book explores the role of space-based applications in supporting African good governance by strengthening civil society, bolstering democratic processes and advancing socio-economic development. Dr. Annette Froehlich is a scientific expert seconded from the German Aerospace Center (DLR) to the European Space Policy Institute (Vienna), and an honorary adjunct senior lecturer at the University of Cape Town (South Africa) at SpaceLab. Responsible for DLR and German representation to the United Nations and International Organizations, she was also a member/alternate head of delegation of the German delegation to UNCOPUOS. Moreover, she has authored several specialist publications and serves as lecturer at various universities worldwide in space policy, law and society aspects. Her main areas of scientific interest are European space policy, international and regional space law, emerging space countries, space security and space & culture.
Nicolas Ringas graduated with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2012. He has been working at an engineering consultancy firm in the water, oil and natural gas sector, specializing in electromagnetic interference issues with AC power lines, railways and cables. He is currently completing a M.S. in Space Sciences at the University of Cape Town, South Africa.
James Wilson graduated from Electrical Engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2017. He has a keen interest in space technology and hence pursued a M.S. in Space Science at the University of Cape Town in 2018. He successfully completed his dissertation in designing a control system for a liquid rocket test stand. He is currently working on renewable energy projects throughout Africa.
