Furthermore, a fresh connection between the sarcophagus of Nectanebo II (now in London) and the Star-Shield block in Venice is made, showing that these funerary encasements may once have formed an ensemble. In this double sarcophagus the mummy of Alexander the Great may once have been buried. The new evidence presented may confirm that the remains supposed to be those of St Mark the Evangelist lying within a coffin in the high altar of St Mark's in Venice are actually the bones of Alexander the Great.***Michael E.
