This book is a true story of three sisters who lived in South Carolina and were sold as slaves to a master in Mississippi. They were able to escape from him, ride a ferry as Stole-Away, swim the Mississippi River, hide in the woods and make it to a place that they had never heard of. They worked in fields with other slaves until they were able to travel to Mississippi. They married and started a community of their own.

Info autore

Rosa A. Sanders has been a life-long member of the Hathorn community in Noxapater, MS. From an early age, Ms. Sanders has associated with the older people of the community and learned about the community's ancestors, including how the community was formed. Elders passed down their stories of familial lineage and community roots to the eager youth, who soaked up all that she could. As an adult, Ms. Sanders used her platform in her local, district, state, and national church conventions to share these stories. The stories were also an institution for her family gatherings. Her reiteration of this rich history instills in listeners a desire to know from whence they came. She earned a BS Degree in Biology from Alcorn State University in 1967; a M.S. Ed. From Mississippi State University in 1977; & Ed. S. degree in Science Education from Mississippi State University in 1985. Professionally, Ms. Sanders taught high school for 33 years in the state of Mississippi. She has one daughter and one granddaughter who also call Mississippi home. Her story is one that has been around for many generations, shared among her community all her life. Now, this story can be shared with communities all over the world.
