With I CANNOT HIDE MY ANGER the artist Monica Bonvicini makes direct reference to the architecture and history of Belvedere 21 in Vienna. She transforms the central hall of the former World's Fair pavilion with a radical intervention that reflects on controversial social questions.
Monica Bonvicini has been grappling with the psychology of the space as well as institutional critique in her site-specific installations since the start of the 1990s. Through this she radically lays bare the common narratives of art history and questions outdated social concepts about masculinity and power, intimacy and domesticity, global warming and geopolitical borders, offering a critical perspective on today's Western society.
The publication presents ruthless political works created by the artist since 2017.

Mit I CANNOT HIDE MY ANGER nimmt die Künstlerin Monica Bonvicini direkt Bezug auf die Architektur und die Geschichte des Belvedere 21 in Wien. Sie transformiert die zentrale Halle des ehemaligen Weltausstellungspavillons mit einem radikalen Eingriff, der gesellschaftlich brisante Fragen reflektiert. Seit Anfang der 1990er-Jahre setzt sich Monica Bonvicini in ihren ortspezifischen Installationen mit der Psychologie des Raumes sowie mit Institutionskritik auseinander. Dabei legt sie geläufige Narrative in der Kunstgeschichte radikal offen und stellt veraltete gesellschaftliche Vorstellungen über Männlichkeit und Macht, Intimität und Häuslichkeit, globale Erwärmung und geopolitische Grenzen in Frage und bietet eine kritische Perspektive auf die heutige westliche Gesellschaft.
