En l'année 96 dit Tabari, d'après le récit d'un certain 'ali ibn Mohammad, Kota'iba ibn Mouslim mit sa famille a l'abri dans Samarkand qu'il avait conquise en (i), par suite de lacrainte qu'il éprouvait de la part de Sola1man, fils dabd al Malik, frère du khalife al - Walid; il chargea ensuite 1 un de ses affranchis, lequel portait le surnom d al Khwarizmi, de faire toutes les opérations nécessaires à la traversée du Fleuve (l Oxus), et il se rendit à Farghana. Il sy apprêta à marcher sur Kashghar, qui est la ville la plus occidentale de l'asie Centrale J' J... ce fut a_farghana (2) qu'il apprit la mort du khalife omayyade al - Walid.
