Entertaining these sentiments, in the following pages, he has occasionally endeavoured to point out some of the injurious effects which have ¿owed from the Compulsory support of Religion; but he has not allowed his opinions to interfere with the duty which he has undertaken - that of writing a faithful narrative of facts. If he has inadvertently fallen into any errors, he will gladly correct them when they are proved to exist.
In consequence of the number of con¿icting statements which have appeared on the subject of the Annuity Tax, whenever the Author has met with an account of any matter relating to it, stated by other parties, in a manner which his own researches had led him to consider substantially correct, he has preferred quoting the passage and authority to embodying the information in his own words, believing this course to have many advantages, especially with an anonymous publication like the present.
