Excerpt from The American Country Almanack, for the Year of Christian Account 1767: And From the Creation by Scripture, 5776, Being the Third After Bissextile, or Leap-Year
The Wide extended country upon this river, the Green bay, and the [traits from thence to lake Michigan, is uniformly pleslanr, the (oil good and fertrle, and wants nothing but civil zed indufirisns inhabitants to render it truly delightful. It is at prefect well ¿ared with a variety of wild game, the natural ¿ocks and herds of its lavage inhabitants. The timber is tall, but not (0 thick as to pre vent the growth of grafs, which is here very luxuriant, it being generalty five or fix feet high, which fufiicrenrlv indicates the 5006 ne{s of the fail. This invites hither the greatett plenty of deer, elks, bufialoes, wild cows, bears, beavers, arc. Add to tirele the fills with which the waters teem, and it certainly appears a mod defira'slc region, for the air is nor leis agreeable than the foil; the winters are never fcvcre, and great part of the year the country wears: verdure.
