Excerpt from Family and Individual Prayers: For Every Day of the Week
The words For the use of all Denominations of Christians, were inserted in the title page of the former edition, they are, however, suppressed in the present edition, in consequence of the hints of some friends. The author's object in using these words was simply to show that the work was not of an exclusive character, drawn up for the members or professors of one denomination only, and containing the distinctives of the body, which distino tives might have been obstacles to their use by other de nominations. But, nevertheless, the Prayers contain, and manifestly it is presumed, the Distinctives of the True Faith. Those who have another faith will find them not in accordance with their views. Yet the author would be glad that such also should be led to look into these Prayers; and also that they should use them for assuredly if they do use them in knowledge and sincerity, they will drop their errors, and be turned to the true faith which bringeth salvation, through the Son of God who gave himself a ransom for our sins, and who ever liveth to make inter cession for us.
