Although the first great Jacobite rising began and ended during this period, neither it nor any other political event makes much stir in the following pages. As usual, Hearne refers to the cause of the House of Brunswick as if it were clear only to a contemptible faction (pp. 63, 85, 99, Various small disturbances in Oxford are duly recorded. Mar's rising (pp. 1 21 - 122) roused hopes which had but a short life.
